Colt 1872 Open Top

The Colt 1872 Open Top has been mislabeled by some as a cartridge conversion, but it is in fact its own distinct model that arrived just before the ubiquitous 1873 Single Action Army. It was chambered in .44 Henry rimfire in order to take advantage of the abundance of the round, but this ultimately proved to be its undoing, as the Richards conversions developed shortly thereafter used the U.S. Military-preferred .44 centerfire round.
