Chouans! (1988)

Chouans! is a french historical adventure film directed by Philippe de Broca in 1988 according to the novel of Honoré de Balzac.The story introduces us to the French Revolution, against the newly created republic and their supporters revolted royalists, called as Chouans of Count de Kerfadec (Philippe Noiret) leadership, to which they added the desperados, but to rob stagecoaches more interest, than restore the monarchy. Yet they managed to induce the peasants rebellion in Brittany. Kerfadec´s ward Céline (Sophie Marceau) is torn between love and political ambitions of two young men - Aurel (Stéphane Freiss), a noble heart and soul - and Tarquin (Lambert Wilson), a devoted republican.
