John Chisum ([[John Wayne]]) keeps a 4 3/4 inch Colt [[Single Action Army]] and uses it in the beginning of the film to kill the leader of the Mexican bandits who stole his horses.  He wears it throughout the film and uses it in the final shootout as well.  James Pepper ([[Ben Johnson]]) also carries one with a 7.5 inch barrel and uses it to shoot at the Mexican bandits.  Billy the Kid (Geoffery Deuel) also carries one which he uses constantly.  He is first seen using it to kill several Mexican bandits, and uses it to knock out Pat Garrett (Glenn Corbett) in the middle of the film.  Billy shoots Sheriff Brady (Bruce Cabot) twice in the chest and one in the head with it, killing him.  In the end gunbattle, Billy shoots several of the deputies.
