When we first see Nic Vos (Tim Robbins), he can be seen teaching his two daughters, Kate (Jessica Anstey), and Marie (Charlotte Savage) to shoot at a range with Smith & Wesson Model 10 revolvers.

Many of the ANC rebels use the AKM as their main weapon for their struggle against apartheid.

Vektor Z88

Nic Vos' (Tim Robbins) sidearm is Vektor Z88, A South African copy of the Beretta 92FS, which he uses several times in the film. The appearance of the Z88 is anachronistic. The story takes place in the early 1980's and the actual pistol was not adopted by the South African military until 1988.
