The Assassination of Trotsky is a 1972 British-Italian-French biopic directed by Joseph Losey and depicting the last year of the life of Leon Trotsky and his assassination by Ramón Mercader (Frank Jackson in the movie) in August 1940.

The following weapons were used in the film The Assassination of Trotsky:

Revolvers

Rast-Gasser 1898

A Rast-Gasser 1898 revolver is seen on Trotsky's (Richard Burton) table in the scene of the murder.

Webley .38 Mk IV

Lou (Jack Betts, credited as Hunt Powers), the head of Trotsky's bodyguards, carries a revolver in holster. Judging by the shape of the grip with lanyard ring and by the holster, Webley .38 Mk IV seems to be a decent guess. Webley-style revolvers are also seen in hands of Trotsky's bodyguard Jim (Michael Forest) and of a Mexican police detective.

Colt Detective Special

A Colt-style compact revolver, supposedly a Colt Detective Special, is seen in hands of Trotsky's bodyguard Sam (Joshua Sinclair). A Mexican police detective holds a same looking revolver.

Pistols

Browning Hi-Power

What appears to be a Browning Hi-Power is briefly seen in hands and holster of Salazar (Enrico Maria Salerno) (this character is a substitution of real person of David Alfaro Siqueiros, a Mexican painter) when he, disguised as a Mexican police officer, leads his men to attack Trotsky's house.

Classic Commercial Browning Hi-Power (Belgian manufacture) - 9x19mm. Such post-war version doesn't fit for 1940 but the screen pistol is definitly not a correct pre-war P-35.
Salazar, disguised as a police officer, carries a pistol in holster.
Salazar holds his pistol. A step on the front part of the slide, typical for Hi-Power, can be seen.
The shape of the grip also matches Hi-Power.

FN Model 1903

Gita Samuels finds an FN Model 1903 in Jackson's suitcase.

M1911-style pistol

Frank Jackson (Alain Delon) carries an M1911-style pistol in the climactic scene.

Submachine Guns

M1928A1 Thompson

Ruiz (Luigi Vannucchi) and several of his men use M1928A1 Thompson SMGs during the attack on Trotsky's house. Lou (Jack Betts), the head of Trotsky's bodyguards, also carries a Thompson.

Rifles

M43 Spanish Mauser

Most of Salazar's men, disguised as Mexican police, carry M43 Spanish Mauser, standing for correct M1936 Mexican Mausers.
