America's Army: Proving Grounds is the sequel to America's Army 3, released in 2013. It is set in the same fictional East European region as America's Army 3, with the background being that the player is an 11B Infantryman practicing combat maneuvers at Joint Training Center Griffin located in the region for future operations.

The game is multiplayer-only and more streamlined to emphasizes small unit tactical maneuvers, but still realistic overall. Like the first game, players always see themselves as the US Army, and see their opponents as the OPFOR faction. Originally, weapons in the OPFOR armory can only be picked up from dead enemies and usable only in that game. Following the March 13th, 2018 update on the PS4 and the April 12th, 2018 update on the PC, OPFOR weapons are added to the equipment customization menu. They can be used if the player first "secures" them by eliminating enemies wielding them, so despite their availability, they're still more or less faction exclusive.

US Army weapons and optics are closely modeled after real equipment, while OPFOR weapons and optics are stylized portrayals of real weapons and optics.

Heckler & Koch MP7A1

The MP7 was originally added to the customization menu in an accident, during which it can be seen but was unusable, and was later removed from the menu in the March 13th, 2018 update, cited as a bug. The MP7 was officially added to the game on the October 24th, 2018 update as the VIP's main weapon.

The M249 is the US Army machine gun, and appears with the railed handguard.

M83 Smoke Grenade

The M83 smoke grenade is the US Army smoke grenade. An alternate grenade option, the fictional "M106 Fast Obscurant Grenade" (FOG for short), is an airburst smoke grenade that quickly releases a cloud of smoke for cover. Model-wise, it appears to be the same M83 model but retextured.

The US Army shotgun is the Remington 870 MCS. It has a shortened barrel and magazine tube, roughly at the length of the Remington 870 MCS Entry, though it still has small rails on the short bit of barrel it has like on the full-length MCS.

The Browning Buck Mark Micro Bull Stainless with a wooden grip appears as the "CZ2", and is the standard OPFOR handgun. It can also be unlocked for use by the US Army by completing an achievement.

The "AK-105" is the OPFOR equivalent to the M4A1. It is actually an AK-104 with a custom stock.

The "AK-107" is the OPFOR equivalent to the M16A4, featuring the corresponding three-round burst mode that doesn't exist on real AKs. It is actually an AKM with custom synthetic parts.

A slightly modified AK-Alfa was added on the October 24th, 2018 update as the "CZ Alpha". It is the OPFOR equivalent to the SCAR-H.

The "Dragunov" is the OPFOR equivalent to the M14. It's actually a hybrid of the Romanian PSL Sniper Rifle with the SVD Dragunov, and features additional custom parts and visual alterations.
