Nice, but where's the trigger?

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon is the latest installment in the popular Ace Combat arcade flight simulator franchise, developed by Project ACES and published by Namco Bandai in October 2011 for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Like the previous game, Joint Assault, it is set in the real world rather than the earlier games' "Strangereal" world. A playable demo showing two levels is available on Xbox Live and the Playstation Network; the majority of screenshots below are currently captures from this demo.

The following weapons appear in the video game Ace Combat: Assault Horizon:

Ace Combat: Assault Horizon (2011)

CETME Rifle

In various cutscenes, New Russian Federation (NRF) soldiers can be seen armed with CETME rifles, the CETME seeming to stand in for AK-74 series weapons normally used by the real-life Russian military.

Beretta M9

In some cutscenes U.S. military personnel, including Cpt. Doug "Shooter One" Robinson can be seen armed with Beretta M9 pistols as their sidearms carried in thigh holsters.

Heckler & Koch MP5A3

In one cutscene, a U.S. Navy SEAL team, callsign "Hammer", can be seen armed with Heckler & Koch MP5A3s with Navy trigger groups and Surefire dedicated forend weaponlights.

Makarov PM

In one cutscene, Colonel Andrei "Akula" Markov can be seen using a Makarov PM to kill General Ivan Stagleishov when Stagleishov attempts to negotiate a surrender to the allied forces.

Generic Rifles

Soldiers in the helicopter demo mission are armed with very low-detail small arms, making it impossible to determine make or model; all that can really be said is the insurgent weapon looks vaguely AK-ish and the American weapon vaguely M4-ish.

A Delta Force operator from one of the "Bravo" teams in the helicopter demo level holds the US-model generic rifle.
An insurgent takes aim with the AK-like generic rifle.

FIM-92 Stinger

Enemy "SAM" soldiers seem to be armed with very low-detail FIM-92A Stinger launchers. The AH-64 Apache can also equip wingtip-mounted Stingers (ATAS or ATAL) as an air-to-air weapon.

File:-0976t.jpg
FIM-92A Stinger - 70mm
The Apache's "AAM" weapon is the Stinger; air-launched Stingers go by the name ATAS or ATAL.
If carried, these are shown in two-tube box launchers on the Apache's wingtips.
An insurgent takes aim with a very blocky Stinger launcher; note, however, the block on the left representing the Stinger's distinctive IFF antenna, the one on the right being the sight.
Another insurgent takes aim with a Stinger. Note the launcher seems designed to produce a "man with Stinger" shadow rather than be an accurate model; normal engagement range in the game is much further away, so a convincing shadow is all that is really needed.

Type 69 RPG

As with the Stinger, the Type 69 RPG used by insurgents seems to be designed more to cast an RPG-like shadow than to be accurate in detail, but the weapon is clearly held with one hand rested above the tube rather than on a second handgrip, meaning it is not an RPG-7. These weapons still sound a lock-on tone when fired, but appear to be unguided, simply travelling in a straight line.

Chinese Type 69 RPG - 40mm
Another low-detail infantry weapon; note the model is treated as only having a single grip, meaning it is designed to cast the shadow of a Type 69.

General Dynamics GAU-17/A

The General Dynamics GAU-17/A appears in the game door-mounted on MH-60L Blackhawk helicopters. It should be noted that this is the first game in the Ace Combat franchise to feature helicopters as playable aircraft. The player controls a Blackhawk's door gun during the opening credits.

DShK heavy machine gun

The DShK heavy machine gun can be seen in the demo mounted on technical trucks and a T-55 tank.

Shooter 1 sweeps over a technical armed with a DShK heavy machine gun.
By rushing to the area where the demo mission ends after shooting down the last Hind-D, it is possible to find an enemy convoy which cannot yet move or fire. This allows all the detail of the DShK to be seen easily without the whole dying thing.
During the demo, Shooter 1 also has to engage this T-55, which can fire both its main gun and the commander's DShK heavy machine gun at the Apache.

KPVT & PKT Machine Guns

In the helicopter demo mission, the player character's helicopter is attacked by a number of BRDM-2 armoured scout cars (called "APCs" in-game), armed with turrets mounting a KPVT heavy machine gun and a coaxial PKT machine gun.

Shooter 1 gets rather unadvisedly close to a Soviet-designed BRDM-2 armoured scout car.

M61 Vulcan

The M61 Vulcan appears in the game as a secondary weapon on several playable fighters, including the F-14D Super Tomcat, F-4E Phantom II, F-16C Fighting Falcon, Mitsubishi F-2A, F/A-18F Super Hornet, F-15C Eagle, F-15E Strike Eagle, F-15S/MTD Eagle, YF-23 Black Widow II, and F-22A Raptor.

The F-22 fires again, this time in the more traditional third-person view.

GAU-12/U

The GAU-12/U is the lightest armament of the AC-130U "Spooky II" gunship, and is the secondary armament of the AV-8B Harrier II.

Shipunov 2A42

The Shipunov 2A42 appears in the game as the secondary armament of the Ka-50 Hokum attack helicopter. The weapon shown in the game has a range of movement of around fifteen degrees; while this range is far narrower than the guns of the other helicopters, it still has a limited arc of fire to the left, despite being mounted on the right-hand side. It also appears as the primary weapon on AI-controlled BMP-2 infantry fighting vehicles in some missions.

Gryazev-Shipunov GSh-30-1

The Gryazev-Shipunov GSh-30-1 appears in the game as the secondary weapon on several aircraft, including the MiG-29A Fulcrum, Su-27 Flanker, Su-34 Fullback, Su-33 Flanker-D, Su-35S Flanker-E, Su-47 Berkut, and the Sukhoi PAK-FA prototype.

In third-person view, Shooter 1 opens up with Hydra missiles and its M230 chain gun.
While the third-person view tends to clog up the field of view with an enormous helicopter, it provides many excellent views of Shooter 1's armament, especially when engaging other helicopters.

Gryazev-Shipunov GSh-23

Mi-24VP Hind-E helicopters in the game are seen armed a chin-mounted Gryazev-Shipunov GSh-23 twin-barrel gun as their secondary weapon. It is also the secondary armament of MiG-21bis Fishbed fighters.

Shooter 1 takes on a Hind-E gunship, armed with a GSh-23. The Hinds are rather fond of dramatic flybys; fortunately, collisions don't seem to be possible in this level.
Helicopters are notoriously bad at hide-and-seek.

Nudelman-Rikhter NR-23

The Nudelman-Rikhter NR-23 appears in the game as defensive armament on computer-controlled Tu-95 Bear bombers the player is tasked with engaging in some missions.

ZU-23-2

In some missions, the player will be engaged by enemies manning ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft guns. The player can also encounter ZSU-23-4 Shilka SPAA units, complete with quad ZU-23 cannons.

M120 mortar

The AC-130 shown in-game, while called an AC-130U, is actually based on one of the suggested upgrade packages for the AC-130, mounting a breech-loading M120 mortar as the heaviest weapon rather than the M102 105mm howitzer mounted on current models.
