1883 is a Paramount+ original streaming series that is a prequel to the Paramount Network series Yellowstone. The series follows an earlier generation of the Dutton family as they make the dangerous trek from Fort Worth, Texas to Montana and to what will eventually become the Dutton family ranch. Like Yellowstone, 1883 was co-created by Taylor Sheridan, the director/screenwriter responsible for such screenplays as Sicario, Hell or High Water and Those Who Wish Me Dead, and who also wrote and directed several episodes of the series. The cast includes Sam Elliott, Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and Isabel May as well as cameo appearances from Tom Hanks, Rita Wilson, and Billy Bob Thornton. The series premiered on December 19, 2021, on the streaming service Paramount+.

Single Action Army "Civilian" Model

Single Action Army "Civilian" Model revolvers are used by Shea Brennan (Sam Elliott), a Pinkerton agent and a former Captain of the Union Army, Marshal Jim Courtright (Billy Bob Thornton), rancher Charles Goodnight (Taylor Sheridan), and numerous bandits, including their leader (Russell Rakestraw). Most, if not all, revolvers can be identified as Uberti replicas.

Shea Brennan holds his gun while contemplating suicide. This "Civilian" revolver is an Uberti 1873 Cattleman Charcoal Blue New Model (note the cylinder-pin retainer on the side of the frame while on the Old Model this detail is positioned in the front of the frame, below the barrel).

Single Action Army "Artillery" Model

Single Action Army "Artillery" Model revolvers are used by James Dutton (Tim McGraw), his daughter Elsa (Isabel May), Thomas (LaMonica Garrett), a Pinkerton agent and veteran U.S. Army sergeant from a Buffalo Soldier regiment, as well as a number of minor characters. These revolvers also appear to be Uberti replicas of several models.

One of Shea Brennan's (Sam Elliott) revolvers is a Single Action Army "Cavalry" Model. "Cavalry" revolvers are also used by several bandits.

After the gang leader (Russell Rakestraw) is wounded, he falls from the horse and drops his "Civilian" revolver (see above) and then tries to draw a "Cavalry" revolver.

Single Action Army Non-firing Replicas

During the confrontation with Lakota, James Dutton (Tim McGraw) holds a Single Action Army "Civilian" Model revolver that can be identified as a Denix Peacemaker non-firing replica, judging by the painted silumin surface and thick wooden grips with a screw. In most scenes, Dutton is armed with a live-firing "Artillery" revolver, and the reason for using a non-firing replica in this scene is unclear.

Many characters carry holstered revolvers that are non-firing replicas of the SAA. They have light brown grips without screws, and a distinctly silumin surface which is black or silver, imitating bluing or nickel finish, respectively.

Shea Brennan (Sam Elliott) hits an exposed thief with an "Artillery" revolver that is most likely a kind of non-firing replica. This is the only scene when Brennan holds an "Artillery" revolver; in other scenes he carries a "Civilian" and a "Cavalry" revolvers.

Thomas carries a non-firing replica revolver in his left-hand holster, instead of his common Smith & Wesson Schofield.

Colton's (Noah Le Gros) revolver in his left-hand holster is a real gun (it is even seen firing) while the revolver in the right-hand holster is a non-firing replica. The difference between the guns can be seen quite well.

Colt 1860 (Richards Conversion)

One of the bandits who attacked the immigrants' camp is armed with a Colt 1860 (Richards Conversion) revolver. The screen gun is probably an Uberti 1860 Richards Army replica.

Claire Dutton (Dawn Olivieri), James Dutton's widowed sister-in-law, holds a "belly gun" version of Colt 1860 Army, commonly referred as "Avenging Angel" or sometimes "1860 Civilian". Judging by the cylinder, this is a Richards-Mason conversion. The screen gun is probably built upon an Uberti replica.

A Smith & Wesson Schofield is used by Thomas (LaMonica Garrett) during the confrontation with the evildoing members of the Wyoming Stock Growers Association. He carries the Schofield revolver together with the SAA "Artillery" revolver as a left-hand gun (although in several scenes Thomas carries a mockup SAA revolver instead of Schofield in the left-hand holster).

In one scene, James Dutton (Tim McGraw) holds a Winchester Model 1873 Long Rifle that later switches to a Short Rifle. Shea Brennan (Sam Elliott) uses a Winchester 1873 Long Rifle during the shootout with the rustlers. In this scene his rifle several times switches between this gun and a version of Winchester 1873 with half-magazine due to a row of continuity errors. Comanche and Lakota also are seen with such rifles. Most of the screen guns are replicas by Uberti.

During the shootout with the rustlers, Brennan's rifle several times switches between this gun and a Winchester 1873 Long Rifle due to a row of continuity errors.

Winchester Model 1885 High Wall

A Winchester 1885 High Wall rifle that is fitted with a Hi-Lux Optics Malcolm 6X 30" long rifle telescopic sight is seen used by James Dutton (Tim McGraw) when dispatching three bandits. The rifle is anachronistic for the time the show is based on since the High Wall didn't come into production until 1885. The rifle is also seen in the hands of Margaret Dutton (Faith Hill). A visually and mechanically similar rifle that would have fit for the 1883 setting is the Sharps 1874.

In one scene, Wade's (James Landry Hébert) Winchester 1873 rifle switches to an anachronistic Winchester Model 1892 carbine due to a continuity error.

Remington Rolling Block Rifle

Sentry #2 (Seth Lee) in Fort Caspar holds a Remington Rolling Block rifle. US military adopted two models of the Remington Rolling Block rifle, both produced by Springfield Armory under license: a US Navy Model 1870 and a US Army Model 1871. Both models had two barrel bands, while the screen gun has three barrel bands, so this is likely a Spanish or Egyptian model.

Enfield Pattern 1853

In the flashback scene that depicts the Battle of Antietam, Union soldiers of Capt. Shea Brennan's unit are armed with a large number of different rifles and muskets (most likely, some reenactors' club was involved in this scene). One of the most widely used guns is an Enfield Pattern 1853 rifled musket.

Union infantry in bayonet charge. Judging by the shape of the ramrod heads and the brass furniture, most rifles are Enfield 1853 (specifically, Chiappa or Pedersoli replicas).
