The Assassination (Original Czech title: Atentát) is a 1964 Czech black-and-white war drama directed by Jirí Sequens. The story depicts the assassination of Reinhard Heydrich in 1942 which was perpetrated by Czechoslovakian paratroopers loyal to Czechoslovakia's government-in-exile. Trained and armed by Britain's Special Operation Executive, two resistance operatives are inserted into the country, eventually carrying out the assassination of one of the principal architects of the Holocaust. This is considered a cult classic film for those interested in war history.
The following weapons were used in the film The Assassination (Atentát):
Pistols
CZ 38
Czechoslovak paratroopers and their British instructors mostly use CZ 38 pistols.
SACM M1935A
Sgt. Ota Strnad (Rudolf Jelínek) also carries and uses a SACM M1935A.
Walther P38
Some Gestapo men carry a Walther P38. Czechoslovakian paratroopers also capture this gun.
Luger P08
Most SS, SD, and Gestapo officers in 1942 are equipped with Luger P08 pistols.
Submachine Guns
Sten Mk II
The main weapon of the Czechoslovak paratroopers dispatched from Britain is the Sten Mk II.
MP 40
Some SS soldiers are armed with MP40s.
Rifles
Karabiner 98k
Most German soldiers are armed with Karabiner 98k rifles.
Shotguns
12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun
A gamekeeper (Oldrich Lukes) carries a 12 Gauge Double Barreled Shotgun.
Machine guns
MG 34
Germans deploy an MG 34 against the trapped paratroopers.
MG42
An MG 42 is seen briefly before becoming an MG 34 in a continuity error. The appearance of an MG 42 is likely anachronistic as the MG 42 was only recently adopted for use at the time of Operation Anthropoid.
Hand grenades
Model 24 Stielhandgranate
Model 24 Stielhandgranates are thrown on defenders by the SS men during the fight in the church.
Training Grenade
The Czechoslovakian troops use dummy grenades while training in Scotland.
