The State Counsellor (original title Statskiy sovetnik) is a 2005 Russian detective movie based on the novel by Boris Akunin, one of the series of historical detective novels about the adventures of detective Erast Petrovich Fandorin. The story takes place in Russian Empire in 1890s. The minister of police is assassinated in Moscow by a terrorist group led by "Grin" (Konstantin Khabenskiy). Two independent investigations are held, the first by Secret police, lead by Gen. Gleb Pozharsky (Nikita Mikhalkov), and the second, informal, by Erast Fandorin (Oleg Menshikov) who is Moscow Governor's Deputy for Special Assignments and skilled detective.
The State Counsellor is the third film about the adventures of Erast Fandorin (two previous were Azazel (2002) and The Turkish Gambit (2005), in all three movies Fandorin is played by different actors). The movie was released in 130-min. theatrical version and 210-min. TV version. This page is based on TV version.
The following weapons were used in the film The State Counsellor (Statskiy sovetnik):
Handguns
Nagant M1895
Nagant M1895 revolvers are used by many characters, including Erast Fandorin (Oleg Menshikov), "Grin" (Konstantin Khabenskiy) and his men - "Rakhmet" (Aleksey Gorbunov), "Yemelya" (Dmitriy Mukhamadeev) and "Snegir" ("Bullfinch") (Kirill Gratsinski), robber "Kozyr" ("Trump") (Vladimir Mashkov), and Moscow police detectives.
Reichsrevolver M1883
"Grin" (Konstantin Khabenskiy) carries a Reichsrevolver M1883 until he loses it during the shootout with police. This revolver is substituted with Nagant M1895 in firing scenes.
FN Model 1905
FN Model 1905 pistols, highly anachronistic for early 1890s, are seen in hands of General Pozharsky (Nikita Mikhalkov) and Esfir Litvinova (Emiliya Spivak). Litvinova's pistol is nickel plated with pearl grips. Pozharsky carries a blued pistol but in the final scene it is substituted with a nickel plated one. Pozharsky's pistol has a unknown logo on the grip; supposedly this pistol is a Spanish copy rather than original FN Model 1906.
Rifles
Mosin Nagant M1891/30
In several scenes Mosin Nagant M1891/30 rifles, standing for original M91s, are seen in hands of policemen.
Infantry Musket M1845
In the flashback scene that shows Grin's escape from Siberian prison a prison guard carries a vague seen rifle. Due to the shape of the business end this rifle can be identified as a Infantry Musket M1845 but it is only a guess.
