Model 1914 Ball Grenade
The Model 1914 Ball Grenade is a French grenade. It is an improvement of the earlier 1847 ball grenade; the wooden fuse was replaced with a brass one and the inside of the grenade was segmented to improve fragmentation. The weapon was developed in 1914 during WW1 but manufacturing was delayed under the belief the war would be over quickly; so the grenade was first issued in 1915. The grenade was attached to the wrist by a strap; when the soldier jerks his arm the grenade extends the strap and flies free, a swivel-hook pulls the friction igniter and lights the fuse.
