− | + | '''Yakuza Kiwami 2''' (Japanese: 龍が如く極2 ''Ryū ga Gotoku KIWAMI 2'' lit. "Like a Dragon Extreme 2") is a remake of the original ''[[Yakuza 2]]'' for the PlayStation 4 and PC. As with its [[Yakuza Kiwami|prequel]], many of the firearms have been changed from its original counterpart, as the format change to PlayStation 3 after ''Yakuza 2'' also prompted the developers to scrap all the first two games' 3D assets. | |

Yakuza Kiwami 2 (Japanese: 龍が如く極2 Ryū ga Gotoku KIWAMI 2 lit. "Like a Dragon Extreme 2") is a remake of the original Yakuza 2 for the PlayStation 4 and PC. As with its prequel, many of the firearms have been changed from its original counterpart, as the format change to PlayStation 3 after Yakuza 2 also prompted the developers to scrap all the first two games' 3D assets.
The following weapons appear in the video game Yakuza Kiwami 2:
WARNING! THIS PAGE CONTAINS SPOILERS!
Handguns
1911-type Pistol
The same 1911-type pistol model returns from Yakuza Kiwami, being used by Shintaro Kazama in a flashback sequence. It is also purchasable as the "Dragon SP," a pistol that never runs out of ammo, for a cool 5 million yen or around 45,000 USD. For a gun that comes with a lifetime supply of .45 ACP ammunition in its very own bottomless magazine, that sounds like a bargain.
Makarov PM
The Makarov PM model from Yakuza Kiwami returns, albeit retextured with a stainless steel finish and is seen being used by a Jingweon Mafia member during the same flashback. Normal black versions of this pistol appear in other cutscenes, as well as in game as the "Antique Pistol" and "Modified Model Gun."
Nambu Model 60/Smith & Wesson Model 36
The "Double Action Revolver" model dating back to Yakuza 3 once again makes a return in Kiwami 2, albeit in an improved form: the rounds were separated from the cylinder and rigged as separate models. Although the Yakuza developers previously tried to hide the presence of unfired rounds in a supposedly-empty gun in Yakuza 0 through camera trickery, this time there was no avoiding the close-up shot of the empty cylinder from the original Yakuza 2 that had to be recreated.
The revolver model is supposed to represent a Nambu Model 60, but in reality incorporates elements from its Smith & Wesson Model 36 forebear. In particular are the lack of lanyard ring and handgrip extension flare on the butt, and the shape of the barrel, which has the Model 36's constant taper, rather than the Model 60's pronounced taper that starts towards the frame-end. It is likely that the developers based the gun model from screenshots of five-shot snub-nosed double-action revolvers being used by Japanese police officers in films and TV shows, assuming that they must be Nambus because of context. In reality, the S&W Model 36 is used as a stand-in more often than not, due to being far easier to come by as a movie prop gun.
Walther PPK
In another repetition from Yakuza Kiwami, main antagonist Wataru Kurahashi's main sidearm appears to be the Walther PPK.
Submachine guns
Ingram MAC-10
A submachine gun based on the MAC-10 with the front grip and (incorrectly collapsed) stock from a Brügger & Thomet MP9 appears as the "Kiwami Machine Gun" and is another model borrowed from Yakuza Kiwami. The name "Kiwami" means extreme, which is apt given the weapon's 120 round magazine capacity.
Long Guns
Remington M870
The Remington 870 shotgun makes a return from Kiwami and is imaginatively named "Shotgun." As this model is identical to that of previous Yakuza titles, it also features a front piece linking the magazine tube and barrel, like the Remington Model 31.
Remington 700
Returning from Kiwami, this Remington Model 700 is only briefly seen in a cutscene where a yakuza uses it to shoot Kaoru Sayama. It can however be seen from the game data that this is the same model as the rifle from Kiwami, except retextured and simplified to work with the new game engine. The laser attachment on the scope has also been removed. Sayama later describes the bullet as being much smaller than that of a regular sniper rifle, as it was not intended to kill its target.
Tanegashima
Returning all the way back from Ryu ga Gotoku Kenzan! is its Tanegashima model, known as the "Komaki Matchlock Gun," named after the family of Kiryu's martial arts sensei Sotaro Komaki. For this game however, the model has been modified to have a full stock, a quite rare feature for Tanegashima. One of Komaki's ancestors apparently managed to adapt the gun to fire three shots without reloading, an idea that is less far-fetched than it may sound.
Unknown Rifle
The strange set of rifles make a return from Yakuza Kiwami. This time the model has been reshaped to make the rear sight/carry handle straighter, making it look more like that of an AR-10/15. However, the overall shape is oddly warped, with a foregrip, front mounted laser/light assembly and a heavily curved magazine that looks eerily familiar to AK pattern guns.
Mounted Weapons
Gatling Gun
An original US Civil War style Gatling gun is seen mounted on a wheeled carriage and used during the Osaka castle sequence. This model is taken from a somewhat similar raid sequence on Ryu ga Gotoku Ishin!, and is a replacement of the Browning M2 which appeared here on the original Yakuza 2 game.
Grenades
Type 97 Hand Grenade
The Type 97 hand grenade is purchasable as the "Incendiary Hand Grenade" from the Beam weapon store. This is despite the fact that the Type 97 is a fragmentation grenade.
Flash Bang
Called "Stun Grenades," Flash Bang grenades can be purchased from the Beam weapon store and is found in the Omi Alliance headquarters during Chapter 3.
Other
General Electric M134 Minigun
A couple of hand held M134 Miniguns can be found in the secret room of the Tojo Clan HQ.
Rocket launcher
This weapon is purchasable from the weapons dealer and also appears in the Tojo clan's secret room. This weapon model first appeared in Yakuza 6, and is based on the Panzerfaust 3-derived Rocket launcher model from Binary Domain, but with the 60mm warhead deleted. Besides being purchasable by Kiryu, it is also the main weapon for Clan member Pocket Circuit Fighter in the Majima Construction mini-game.
Kiwami flashback weapons
During the graveyard sequence at the beginning of the game, the player can choose to watch a round-up of the previous game's story. This features cutscenes showing various weapons from that game, including the Beretta 92FS and Kazama's SIG Pro pistol.
